I am a student at East Texas Baptist University fulfilling a calling that God has placed in my life. Through prayer I was instructed by God that I was going to teach high school students and be a light in a dark world. My initial reaction to this was, "No God...I have a full scholarship to get a degree in architecture and make a lot of money as an officer in the Air Force." Well God does not take no for an answer and he pretty much made it to where I had no other option, but to listen to Him. There was a point in time where I had wanted to become a teacher and God rekindled that passion for me. I am now pursuing a degree in Secondary Education to teach History at the high school level. I also want to work with my students outside of the classroom by being a coach. I want to eventually be a head track and field coach along with being an assistant football coach. I personally feel like there are not enough good role models for many teens at such a crucial stage in their life. This age group is a major stage of development for teens. The decisions they make at this point could affect them for the rest of their lives. I want to encourage my students to become the best that they can be and live to their full potential. This is why I feel led to teach and I feel that this is what God has planned for my life!
